Hibiscus Margarita (Margarita de Jamaica)

Hibiscus brings a bright, tart, fruity flavor and a deep magenta color that makes this margarita stand out. It's refreshing, vibrant, and the kind of drink that instantly feels like a getaway.

This hibiscus margarita is naturally tropical and feels just a little bit special. It's made with dried hibiscus flowers - the same trumpet-shaped blooms you probably associate with warm, sunny places - and they bring a tart, lightly floral flavor that pairs beautifully with lime and tequila. I'll make a single glass for myself, or turn it into a pitcher when friends are coming over.

Instead of using triple sec, I sweeten this margarita with hibiscus simple syrup. It adds a tangy, fruity note that complements the citrus and tequila perfectly, plus it gives the drink that gorgeous blush-pink color. If you're looking for a margarita with a fresh, fruity twist that still feels classic, this hibiscus margarita is it.

Make a hibiscus margarita pitcher

The easiest way to change a single drink into a pitcher is to convert ounces to cups. In this case, you'll need 2 cups of tequila, 1 cup of fresh lime juice, and ¾ cup of hibiscus simple syrup. Mix it up in an ice-filled pitcher, then serve right away.

If you'd like to prep this in advance, add the ingredients to a pitcher with no ice and store it in your fridge. At party time, add ice and serve.
